Some trigger-happy personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State are notorious for ending the lives of people abruptly through the accidental discharge of bullets especially in Lagos State.
Checks by SaharaReporters on Monday showed that the statistics of victims is more alarming than it used to be, with the policemen seeming to have worsened in their conduct with civilians.
On September 12, 2021, Monsurat Ojuade, an admission seeker, was killed by a trigger-happy police officer, in Lagos State.
The 18-year-old was shot by an officer while returning home from her mother's shop alongside her sister.
The police officer was said to have followed them and while trying to get into the compound forcefully shot at the victim.
The police had claimed the incident was a result of a stray bullet but the deceased's family alleged the officer deliberately shot the victim.
The victim took the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and was awaiting admission into the University before the unfortunate incident.
In November 2018, Adeyemo Rotimi Oke, a traffic officer with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was at his duty post controlling traffic in Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos when he was shot dead by a SARS officer, Inspector Olukunle Olonade.
Adeyemo confronted Olonade for driving against traffic at Iyana-Ipaja roundabout, during the argument, he shot the LASTMA officer. A few hours later, the police officer was attacked by hoodlums who beat him to ‘stupour’. He died while being rushed to the hospital.
In March 2019, a trigger-happy policeman, who was said to be intoxicated while on duty, allegedly shot dead a teenager, Hadijat Sikiru, in the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Monday.
However, the Lagos State Police Command, through the Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said a team of policemen exchanged gunfire with suspected cultists while on surveillance duty around Adamo, adding that in the process, Hadijat was hit by a stray bullet while two police personnel sustained injuries.

The officer who fired the shot, Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan has been dismissed from the Force and he is presently standing trial for the murder.
On April 13, 2019, 20-year-old Ada Ifeanyi, was in the company of her boyfriend, Emmanuel Akomafuwa, and one other friend in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, when Police officers chased their car and opened fire on the unarmed youths.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command said it identified the six policemen responsible for the Saturday incident. Five of them were arrested, while one, Inspector Dania Ojo, is currently on the run and have been declared wanted.
The five policemen that have been arrested in connection with Ada Ifeanyi’s murder are Inspector Adamu Usman, Sergeant Adeyeye Adeoye, Sergeant Kashim Tijani, Sergeant Lucky Akigbe and, Sergeant Paul Adeoye.
In August 2019, a 30-year-old woman, identified as Busayo Owoodun, was fatally hit by a stray bullet during an exchange of gunfire between police officers and suspected kidnappers at a roadside in the Ijegun area of Lagos.
The bullet had penetrated the walls of Owoodun's house.
On May 26, 2020, 16-year-old girl, Tina Ezekwe was at Iyana-Oworo bus stop in Lagos, where she sold fruits for her mother when a police officer arguing with a bus driver over bribe fired shots and a stray bullet hit Tina.
She died three days later, on Thursday May 28, at a hospital in Lagos Island.
A 28-year-old man, Fatai Oladipupo was shot dead on Wednesday May 20, 2020 by a police inspector Charles Okoro in Igando, Ikotun area of Lagos.
A driver, Ikechukwu Ilohamauzo was hit by a stray bullet from a police officer during the #EndSARS protest on October 13, 2020. Hours later, a man who identified himself as Samuel Okafor, told BBC Pidgin that
Ilohamauzo was his driver and that they were on their way to Ilupeju before running into traffic.
The slain driver, according to Okafor, got out of the car to ease him and was hit by a police bullet.
