The National Judicial Council (NJC) will meet today to deliberate further over the petitions against Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and acting CJN Tanko Muhammad.

Onnoghen was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari on the order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, before whom the suspended CJN is standing trial over allegations of fraudulent declaration of assets.

Muhammad was sworn in by Buhari to serve as CJN, although in an acting capacity.

On January 29, 2019, the NJC had adjourned its meeting till February 11, 2019, after issuing a two-week ultimatum to Onnoghen and Muhammad to respond to petitions levelled against them.

Both Justices are said to have responded to the petitions, but their responses have not been made public.
