Senate President Bukola Saraki has called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the FCT Management Agency (FEMA), and other emergency services personnel to be on "high alert" following the earth tremors in Abuja, which have been on and off for the past two days.
There have been reports of earth tremors in various areas of Abuja since Wednesday evening.
While appealing for calm and vigilance, he noted that Dino Melaye, Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, had already briefed the FCT Minister on the issue.
The Senate President also provided phone numbers for residents to reach, in the case of emergencies.
In a series of posts via his Twitter handle, Saraki wrote: "We have all been feeling the earth tremors in Abuja and surrounding areas over the last 48 hours. I know that many people are scared, but please, remain calm and vigilant.
"At this time, it is important that @NEMANigeria, FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and all emergency services be on high alert to prevent the loss of lives and property.
"The Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Dino Melaye, has already briefed the FCT Minister on this issue.
