Senate President Busola Saraki on Wednesday got a platter-of-gold opportunity to formally declare his widely-rumoured presidential ambition, but he passed.

At the ‘World Press Conference’ he organized in Abuja to address Tuesday’s invasion of the National Assembly the Department of State Services (DSS) officials, a journalist from Reuters had asked him if he would contest the 2019 presidential election.

Responding, Saraki said: “We are here today about the issue of democracy of this country; that is why we’re here. 

“That is more important to me and to all of us who are here — not to those who are seeking any kind of platform. I think when the time is right, I will talk on the issue.

“Today, we’re talking about democracy in Nigeria, to ensure the rule of law, to defend those who are oppressed…”
