President Muhammadu Buhari extended the tenure of the Chief of Defence staff and service chiefs in the Nigerian armed forces on Monday.

According to a press release signed by Colonel Tukur Gusau, public relations officer for the Minister of Defence, Mr. Buhari, as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, extended the tenure of the following staff: General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Ibok-EteIkwe Ibas, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, Chief of Air staff.

The president approved the extension after thoroughly reviewing the Nigerian military’s ongoing war against Boko Haram and its operations in the Niger Delta.
