A call has been made for the release of Mr. Audu Makori, music entrepreneur and boss of Chocolate, from police detention. The call was contained in a statement circulated by Mr. Paul Okeugo, friend and partner to the music entrepreneur arrested on Friday for spreading false information through a series of tweets that five students of Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, were killed by Fulani herdsmen.

According to Mr. Okeugo, Mr. Maikori was arrested over his advocacy against the killings in Southern Kaduna. "Audu genuinely cares about Nigeria and everyone in it. He is not one to spread false information or advocate violence. Together we have strived to create a better future for all young people in Nigeria. Audu exemplifies the kind of qualities we sorely need in this society.

"I would like to reach out to fans and friends of Audu and our company that we all should please exercise patience and remain calm," said Mr. Okeugo.

He added that he and others are working to secure his release and have reached out to friends. Two weeks ago, Mr. Makori admitted that his tweets contained false information. In a statement he personally signed, Mr. Makori apologized for falsely tweeting that Fulani herdsmen killed students at the College of Education, claiming he was misled by his driver.
