As the campaign train of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), rolled into Kano on Tuesday, the flag-bearer called on his supporters to remain at the polling units after casting their votes in the elections in order to make sure their votes are counted, recorded and protected.

Protect Your Votes After Voting, Buhari Tells Kano Supporters

In his short speech at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kofar Mata, before a massive crowd, Buhari reiterated the APC’s promise to address squarely the issues of insecurity, unemployment, and corruption that are bedeviling the country.

“We are determined to make sure that Nigeria regains her lost glory,” he said. “By addressing these problems we are sure a lot of things will take shape.”

Commending the large turnout of supporters, he reminded them that their show of support by turning out en-masse was not enough to get their candidates voted into office, and that voters must make sure that they cast their votes during the election.

And in order to dispel the acrimony in some sections of the party following the primary elections that saw the emergence of such party flag-bearers in the state as the gubernatorial candidate, his running mate and the senatorial candidate for the Kano North Senatorial District, General Buhari urged supporters to cast their votes in favour of APC in all positions from the presidential election down to state assembly elections.

This position was contrary to the position earlier held by the House Deputy Minority Leader, Hon Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, who recently ordered those who supported him during his gubernatorial contest to elect Buhari for the presidency, but was silent on other elections in the state.

Buhari’s call also contradicts that of the former deputy governor of the state during the tenure of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, under the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party, Engineer Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, who also recently asked his supporters to vote for Buhari next month, but ignored others in various contests.
