Students of tertiary institutions under the aegis of National Association of Ondo State Student (NAOSS) are now paralyzing businesses and hampering vehicular movement at the popular Oba Adesida road in Akure, the capital of Ondo State as they embark on street protests.
The students from Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA), and Ondo State School of Health Technology Akure (OSSHT) are protesting over the government refusal to fully pay their bursary allowances.
The students have been asking the Ondo State government to fully pay their bursary allowances since last year.
Many of the protesting students are accusing the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko of neglecting them and diverting monies meant for student bursary to finance the upcoming Federal House of Representatives by-election billed for Saturday in Ilaje constituency.
SaharaReporters saw the students in their hundreds blocking the popular Oba Adesida Road close to the A division Command of the Ondo State Police Force.
As at the time of filing this report, men of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force are pleading with the Students to remove the blockage mounted on the road to allow free flow of traffic.
